OUR CURRICULUM
With a focus on play-based education, we understand that children learn best when they are having fun.

WAldorf Education
A WAldorf Initiative

At Jasiri Souls School – A Waldorf Initiative, we aspire to respond to the fresh challenges posed in the 21st Century by providing quality Waldorf Education to all children. With the rapid rise in technology and alarming rate of mental and emotional health, we believe Waldorf Education is the ideal curriculum that meets the needs of children today.
Waldorf education is experiential and teaches learners to learn from life through doing and making. The curriculum adequately prepares children to meet the enormous demands the world may bring on them by supporting children to tap into their creativity thus discovering the world for themselves.
Waldorf education is a holistic approach to learning that nurtures the intellectual, emotional, and physical development of each child. Founded by Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century, this educational method emphasizes the integration of academic subjects with artistic and practical activities, aiming to develop students’ thinking, feeling, and doing. The curriculum is designed to match the developmental stages of children, from imaginative play in early childhood to critical thinking and social responsibility in later years.
" At JaSIri Souls, children are taught how to think, not what to think "
Inspiring Determination
The Waldorf curriculum is structured to provide opportunities that awaken and develop problem-solving and leadership skills in every learner. In so doing, the learner is able to regulate their social-emotional lives while engaging their imagination. We get children and young people excited about their own education and learning. Our Waldorf curriculum is designed to inspire and engage every type of learner, fulfilling pupils intellectually, actively, and emotionally in every lesson and activity. We prepare children to be creative thinkers and problem solvers in an ever-changing and complex world.

The 7 Arts
seven arts in WAldorf education
The seven arts in Waldorf education are not isolated subjects. Rather, they are interwoven throughout the entire curriculum, contributing to the development of a child’s cognitive, emotional, and physical faculties. The 7 Arts are considered essential in nurturing a child’s holistic growth: Intellectually, Emotionally, and Creatively
By learning through the arts, children engage deeply with their subjects, creating an education that is meaningful, experiential, and holistic.
These arts help nurture creativity, critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration, preparing children not only for academic success but also for life as imaginative, socially aware, and emotionally balanced individuals. These arts are:

Visual Arts
Music
Singing, Instrumental Playing, and Music Theory
Drama
Theater, Role-Playing, and Puppetry
Movement
Eurythmy, Dance, and Physical Expression
Handwork

kindergarten

The kindergarTen (2-6 years)
The first 7 years of a child’s life are the most crucial of all. A nurturing environment that fosters joy, wonder, and reverence is essential for healthy growth. The foundations and cornerstone of all learning for life are developed at this stage thus, the future development of each individual child is dependent on their experiences in the first seven years of life. The curriculum is designed to create a super strong foundation to ensure a child will live a powerful purposeful life. Toddlers are naturally curious and primarily learn through play, imitation, and movement. To preserve this rage for learning, our classrooms are environments enriched with what children need in this stage.
Education is based on an understanding of human development; hence it protects and respects the dignity of childhood. The teachers focus on will-oriented (physical) activities in the first three years, followed by imaginative play in the middle years of childhood and later a more cognitive approach to learning as the children transition to grade school.
unique aspects of kindergarten
Play- based learning
Self-directed play is the most effective learning approach for kindergarten children as it promotes brain development, nurtures social skills, and strengthens fine and large motor skills. Through play, children learn a variety of skills that lay a foundation for later learning. While the children perceive their day as filled with play, teachers are focused on skill development.
Pre-academic foundations
The Waldorf kindergarten curriculum emphasises the development of language, listening, numeracy, memory, and social interaction through daily activities such as storytelling, puppet shows, songs, and speaking verses. The curriculum also incorporates artistic activities like drawing, modeling, hand crafts, baking, and gardening to enhance children’s learning experiences.
Sensory Integration
The Waldorf kindergarten focuses on sensory development in young children, emphasizing the importance of effectively organizing sensations for learning. Activities such as music, dancing, tree climbing, and nature walks encourage movement and sensory stimulation. Tactile sense is developed through sand play, kneading dough, and playing with natural toys. Through exposure to varied activities, mobility, spatial awareness, motor skills and flexibility are refined.
Nature-based experiences
Waldorf children are given the opportunity to play outside in natural playgrounds in all weather and seasons, allowing them to learn new things in new ways. This type of learning also helps children develop a bond and respect for nature. It also improves brain functions and reduces anxiety.
primary (7-14 years)
THE PRIMARY (7-14 Years)
The Waldorf Primary curriculum provides a gradual transition from Kindergarten to Primary, with formal education beginning in the latter. The approach is more structured, with guidance from teachers and an emphasis on beauty in everything they do. This helps cultivate a lifelong love for learning. In the grades school, the focus is on developing artistic expression and social capacities while fostering both creative and analytical minds.

unique aspects of the primary
The three-fold nature of learning
The Waldorf classroom teaches lessons in a three-fold manner, integrating the head, heart, and hands approach. This approach combines intellectual capacities, artistic and emotional capacities, and practical skill-building capacities resulting in a well-rounded individual.
Main Lesson Blocks
The Waldorf grade school starts each morning with a main lesson. This is a 3-4 weeks period of interacting with one subject, also known as a block, which allows students to deeply engage with the subject matter.
Intertwining the Arts in the lessons
Students use various forms of art, such as music, drama, modeling, painting, drawing, handwork, and speech work to enhance their emotional and cognitive abilities. By engaging in the artistic process, students develop skills in imagination, self-control, and clear thinking that benefit them in both academic and personal situations. Waldorf Education emphasizes the importance of creativity in education and how it can help students create beauty that radiates from within.
Building social skills through community
The curriculum instills a deep sense of community as students become aware of their relationships to their classmates, school and the world. Through the close connections students develop trust, social skills and spiritual awareness by respecting and caring for one another, their environment and the earth.
Schooling without textbooks
In Waldorf grade schools students create individual main lesson books. These books reflect the student’s understanding and proficiency in the subject matter through essays, scientific observations, and drawings. The main lesson books showcase the breadth and depth of the curriculum.
Student/Teacher relationships
Teachers in Waldorf grade schools stay with their class throughout their academic journey. This long-term relationship provides security and enhances learning, confidence, and social and emotional skills. It also ensures that each child’s individual needs are met.
Assessment and Grading
Waldorf schools prioritize a healthy learning rhythm without competition. Students are evaluated based on visible and relevant learning goals, including the development of soft skills such as creativity, critical thinking, empathy, and leadership. The goal is to encourage learners to strive for excellence and reach their highest potential.
